I, like many other people, like to ask a lot of questions for many good reasons. Sometimes I ask questions without thinking twice about it. You know, the questions referred to as ‘stupid’. But I still ask them anyways. It’s a way to learn. Today, I would like to talk about “The Art Of Asking Questions”.

I know that if I were to ask a question that someone doesn’t know the answer to, that they would struggle to answer my question. But in a way, I think it helps them by making them think about it and maybe even do some extra research on it for their own gain. I believe there’s nothing wrong with asking questions but I’ve also heard that a lot of times people honestly ask the wrong question without knowing it. But for most children asking question is one of the best ways to learn new things.

Asking questions could also start a discussion. For example, why do you think that democracy is important for Canada? This type of question could start a long discussion depending also who’s involved. It could also be a simple question like, what is your favourite colour?

Even though we don’t like it, some people will ask questions that they already know the answer too. Just to prove they are right. For example, “The answer to 8×2 is sixteen”. Isn’t right mom?”

Questions could also show that someone shows interest towards you. Are you alright? Do you need my help? What is the matter? These questions are examples of questions that make you feel appreciated, cared, and knowing that someone’s there for you.

Sometimes you ask a question for one’s opinion. You could ask questions like, ‘Do you like my shirt?’ ‘Do you think you should sing this song?’ And many more.

Questions could also be annoying when used in a whining tone. For example, ‘Do I HAVE to do that?’ or maybe, ‘Can I play outside BEFORE I fix my room?’

Questions may also show you have manners. Especially the questions that start with “May I please…” You should NEVER ask questions like, “Was your nose always that big?” or “Are you always this stupid?” Always ask questions that are nice and with good intention.

No matter what the questions are, they play an important role in our life and they help us learn. You should still always think twice before asking a question to make sure it doesn’t hurt one another’s feelings. Hence I’ll end with these two anonymous quotes: “Knowledge is knowing the right answer, Intelligence is asking the right question”. So as “Wisdom is asking the right question until knowing the right answer”.
