It’s almost the end of the school year!! Not that that is something to be excited about because learning is fun!! The reason I wanted to tell you that is because near-the-end-of-the-year is one of the best parts of the year at my school because we have so much going on! We have our June family picnic, end-of-year field trips, end-of-year parties, grad for the grade eights and more!! But what I want to talk to you about is our end-of-year Talent Show or should I say L.B.P’s Got Talent!!!

Our Talent Show used to be called Lip Synch because it used to be a competition where you chose a song and you make up a dance or routine to it while you lip synch the words hence the name Lip Synch, but it changed when I was in grade 3 or 4 to the Talent Show so that more people and ore variety could enter. To be part of the talent show, you first have to audition in front of your class and the top two people or groups in your class move on!! We couldn’t have everyone move on or else the Talent Show because then it would go on for 3 hours but a lot of people made it to the next round! The two people who made it in my class were both girls and one was singing and the other was dancing and they were both really good and deserved to go on!!

After the class auditions, there was a school audition where you had to audition in front of the school and a panel of three judges which consisted of two grade eight girls and a parent judge! There were so many amazing talents!!! One boy in grade five did a really cool dance called “insulation” I believe and it was soo good!! So many people did dances that were really good! What I loved about this year’s talent show was that there were a lot of original talents!!! One kid recited the Periodic table to the Periodic Table song and another three boys did a Three Stooges comedy sketch!!

I would have loved to compete in the Talent Show but I have to admit, I was bit scared to go up in front of my class and sing a song! That is one of the things I like about the talent show competitors, they had enough courage to go up and show everybody what their mad of! I never really thought about like that until I wrote this article but now that I have, I’m going to compete next year! You never what could happen until you try!

Ten people from grade 3-4 make it, ten from 5-6 and 5 from grade seven!! All the grade eights made it automatically because it would be their last talent show! Now even though I didn’t audition, I will still be a part of the talent show! My sister and I (Venus) were asked if we could be emcees for the Talent Show by my homeroom teacher! She said she chose us because she thought it would be interesting if the twins could emcee and also because we are really go in English and French when it comes to both speaking and writing!! I was an emcee for a character traits assembly award last year so I readily agreed and so did Venus! I loved seeing the acts but now I get to announce them!! Yay! Being an emcee is actually hard as well as fun because all of the participants in the Talent Show are counting on you to introduce them and get the audience interested in the next acts to come! Do you have any special end-of-school activities that you like or are a part of?

Your go-to emcee,

Serena Wambura.
