REGULAR vs. SUPPLY TEACHERS

Most people find their regular teacher nice, kind, or even funny, but when they are sick or they have to coach a team or go for training, you have to have a supply teacher.  You are sad and you think that the day is going to be the worst.  You don’t know what to do so you just deal with the supply teacher and hope that your regular teacher will be back the next day.  You have to stick with a supply teacher.

But, the truth is, some supply teachers are not bad as most of us may thing, some are even funny and kind.  Sometimes, students get to know about the supply teachers from their friends who had them before so that we can know what to expect.  There may be rumors that they are strict, mean and so forth, and I find that very rude.  It seems that students cannot keep their thoughts about other people to themselves.  Some of the things they say about the supply teachers are not true and I actually find these students to be mean and rude.  I for one, think that supply teachers are fine and I don’t have a problem with them in most cases.

I think it is okay to have supply teachers come in to fill in for our regular teachers when they are away.  This helps us students to still be in school and at least learn something; otherwise we would have to stay home or divided into other classes.  I would not mind going to another class, but I do not think there will be enough room for all of us to squeeze in and learn.

Having a supply teacher at least allow students to continue being in our home rooms which we are used to.  I also think supply teachers help to give our regular teachers a break to attend to other things apart from teaching.  I believe, like everyone else in our school, regular teachers are humans, and they can be sick, or even have family issues to attend to just like our parents.

However, I for one do not like having supply teachers too often.  Not only that, I do not like having new supply teacher ever time my regular teacher is away as I find that new supply teachers have troubles controlling the class.  Some of the things students do when we have supply teachers nobody can do so with the regular teacher like fooling around and not completing work.

I also think supply teachers do not know us that much like our regular teachers.  Our regular teachers spend more time with us (September to June) and they relate to us.  Supply teachers coming for a day or two will not have that knowledge of us, therefore if anything happens, hell can get loose.

Supply teachers are not just new to the students and school; they are also new to class routine, technology used, and school routine in general.  Sometimes students have to explain and explain and explain.   I know it is not their fault.  They are new to the school after all.

I like it when our regular teacher is around because we have had him since the beginning of our school year. I am happy and lucky that my regular teacher is around most of the times.  In my opinion supply teachers are great.  They are fun and we get to do something newer than our old routine.  It is great. I love it.  As for my fellow watotos, remember, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”.  I think we are so blessed to have supply teachers as learning goes on if our regular teachers are not there.
