At school for science I have been learning about senses. There are five senses which are hearing, smelling, tasting touching and sight. To help us understand the senses our teacher read a book about each sense and did experiments about senses with us.
For hearing my teacher picked two students and one had to stay in front of the chart stand and the other had to stay behind the chart stand. One had to say hello to the other person and he/she had to guess who it was. When you hear a sound it will go inside a tube in your ear. At the end of the tube there is something called ear drum. If the sound is high then your ear drum will beat fast; if it’s a low sound then your ear drum will beat slow.
For smelling my teacher wrapped some stuff with paper towel. We all had to smell it and guess the items. Our smelling sense helps us smell danger like smoke. Then we know that we have to get out fast.
For touching my teacher put some stuff in paper bags and we had to feel them and then guess the items. Touching helps us feel the texture.
For tasting my teacher brought some food. We all had to taste them on are tongue and see where we like it the most. She taught us which part of the tongue tastes different types of food. Our tip of the tongue tastes sweet and salt; our middle of the tongue tastes sweet; our sides of the tongue tastes sour; our back of the tongue tastes bitter. If you have to eat something you don’t like then you can cover your nose and eat. When you eat like this you won’t feel the taste because your mouth and your nose work together to feel the taste.
For sight we did an experiment on optical illusion. People who don’t have vision can read by feeling the bumps on the paper. They use the sense touch to help them understand the words.
I am grateful to have all five senses!
