In memory of Vanessa Yasintha Wambura (August 2003 – August 2023).

There is something that differentiates us from the rest of the world, a talent, money a profession…maybe the colour of our skin. We should be proud about it and happy. But, someone or something tries to pull you down and tell you you’re not worth it. When really, without reminder, you should know you are.

In Canada we live in a democratic country where we’re all equal. We’re all important to the stability of the human chain. In most cases, a white person isn’t anymore important than a black person or any other colour. We shouldn’t have to have that obvious reminder installed in our brains permanently. It should just be common sense and respect. Just because we many not look the same or act the same doesn’t mean we should feel threatened to a “superior being”. If you strip away the colour of a person and their abilities underneath it we’re all the same species on the same planet. Skills develop in our lives, and shouldn’t be treated better or worse than other skills. Truthfully, if we were all the same this world would be pretty boring and same-same. Where would all the excitement be if everyone was in the same place at the same time and doing the same thing. God made us all individual human beings to bring charisma and change to the world. No matter what colour.

Being Christian, I feel safe practicing my religion. I feel respected and treated properly and how I feel I deserve to be treated. That being said, I must also respect other religions and cultures. In fact, I find other cultures and religions mesmerizing and bonding. Whether it is the dancing or the singing. It makes me feel closer and more interested. Soon, my respect turns to like, then even love. Peace is important throughout this process. No matter what there shall be no violence or hatred. Why should there be anyways? Aren’t we all the same? Aren’t we all human beings with the right of different thought and speech.

We’re all equal and important and vital in this world. Maybe not to everyone but to some people. Like your family and to your friends. In Canada and in countries all around the globe we should feel safe doing things that make us different and set us apart from others. After all, we’re all humans.

What is saddening is the fact that, in lots of countries people are being killed because of their gender, take Malala Yousafzai for example, she was shot in the head simply because of being a girl and for going to school. She is now a great inspiration to so many who are fighting for human rights girls rights and respect. In America and places all over the world people especially teens are being killed because of their race. Peace and Love need to Prevail!
I will end my article with this quote:

“Wherever you go, in every country, or in every continent, people yearn and hunger for only one thing: to love and be loved. Love transcends international boundaries and heals the wounds of hatred, racial, prejudice, bigotry and ignorance. It is the ultimate truth at the heart of all creation.”
